If you like
hiking among high cliffs, cold rivers and wild animals consider a visit in Zion
National Park. For those who are looking for amazing rocks’ shapes and epic views
out of this planet Bryce Canyon is the right place. If you, just like me, like
all those things – see them both J
WHAT TO SEE
ZION
Zion Nation
Park is located in south-western Utah and has been shaped by the Virgin River.
It covers 372 square kilometres! The canyon walls are made of red sandstone
what in combine with dark green trees and blue water create a perfect match.
The
best place to begin your adventure is the Visitor Centre. Nothing unusual, but it really helps to plan
the stay in the park. Nearby the Centre, you can leave your car and then take a
free shuttle bus that stops at the entrance of different hiking paths.
Zion
offers a variety of trails both for families with children as well as for skilled
climbers. We chose:
- a walk through the river
- Emeralds Pools
- and Angeles Landing
The Angels Landing Trail was the
most difficult and dangerous route, and at the same time the most beautiful I
have ever done. I really recommend that.
BRYCE
Bryce
Canyon is the largest concentration of irregular columns of rock that exists on
Earth. It looks like a giant red hole in the earth. The rocky amphitheatre was
formed by chemical and thermic erosion through thousands of years. While walking among the powdery orange rocks,
I have the impression that I was in a fairy-tale land of the Middle East. That
was awesome.
We spent
one day in Bryce, but for sure, it is worth to do more trails there. You can
walk through the colourful pillars and see them closely or take a shuttle bus
and do hop on/off trip. The picturesque view will allow you to take wonderful
pictures.
WHERE TO STAY
There are
campgrounds in the Zion NP, but probably you have to book them half year in
advance. In the nearest town - Springdale the prices are dramatically high. For
us the best option was Hurricane. From this city, you can reach Zion by car in
approximately 40 minutes, leave the car in Springdale and take a shuttle bus to
the hiking trail. BTW, Springdale offers souvenirs and restaurants, so it’s a
cosy place to spend the evening after the whole day of hiking.
We drove to
Bryce just for a single day. Nevertheless, there are some campgrounds and
motels near the canyon. If I had more time, I would spend a night in a tent
admiring the sky full of stars.
Last but
not least, I would recommend Zion for those who are looking for one place to
spend the whole week. The park offers so many attractions that you can easily
go to this place to spend the whole vacation there - relaxing and discovering
the beauty of this amazing place.
